Sri Manavala Mamunigal, considered as the last Acharya (Teacher) in the Sri Vaishnava Lineage, mentions that for time immemorial, the Guru used to teach a student or his son and then in turn the knowledge would be passed down generations, But Saint Ramanuja is the one, who broke this unwritten convention and declared that who ever wants to learn and is willing to take the necessary effort, he will be taught.
